2010 ARW - An Arts, Recreation & Worship Conference
May 3-8, 2010

“It’s About Time”
The Annual Recreation Workshop is an amazing five-day experience of the arts, recreation, and creative worship which takes place in Montreat, NC.
The 2010 workshop, directed by Deb Guess, is a cutting edge conference for professionals and volunteers which will equip participants to develop and lead more powerful and creative ministries through experiential learning, leadership development, and spiritual renewal.
The conference is designed for pastors, educators, youth workers, church volunteers, and anyone interested in developing more creative leadership skills in ministry settings. ARW is connected to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and welcomes all denominations to participate in the workshops.
Each participant can select from courses in recreation leadership, worship design, ministries with all ages of people, and creative arts and spirituality. Each course, along with the whole group worship and recreation events, will give those who come a myriad of resources to use in local ministry settings. ARW is also a wonderful opportunity for personal spiritual renewal and re-creation.
Key Leaders
- Laura Smith Conrad Serving as the Pastor of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson, SC, Laura loves being a part of worship, preaching, and leading God’s people in that corner of the world. Laura serves ARW as the Assistant Chairperson of the Steering Committee. As a pastor, she loves using what she has learned through the years at ARW in teaching, leading Session and staff in community building, and especially in planning and leading worship. Laura shares her life with three very special folks: her husband, Chuck, and their two kids, Avery and Hallie
- Cheryl Glenn Our music leader for 2010, Cheryl Glenn is on staff at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant, SC, where she is the techy go-to girl for all things dealing with communications. On the weekends she also leads music for a fun new church, The Porch, just outside of Charleston. Cheryl loves telling the story through all sorts of creative media, and when she’s not sitting in front of her Mac, she’s either sticking her nose in a book or hanging out with her partner and their two Jack Russells, Daisy and Bosco.
Pre-Conference Events
Altared Time
Monday, May 3, 9:00 am until 4:00 pm
Cost: $100 (includes lunch, class kit, and double occupancy overnight accommodations at Assembly Inn on Sunday night.)
Where does the time go? We never have enough time. So, what do we spend our time doing? What do we worship that takes up our time? Let’s make some assemblage art (that would be the art of sticking all kinds of leftover things together) that reflects what we do with our time.
Each participant will be given a different non-functioning old clock as a foundation for the altar. We’ll add lots of rusty old things and cheap plastic junk and anything else we can find. You can bring bits of stuff you have sitting around your basement or things you find at a yard sale or the dollar store – gears, keys, watch parts, typewriter pieces, coils, washers, nails, tacks, pictures, etc. Learn techniques that will cover the cheap plastic stuff (or anything else you may be using) and make it look like cool old stuff. Also learn techniques to add texture to the pieces.
Don’t miss out on the TIME of your life!!!!! Limited to 20 participants.
